Nigeria: Governors Forum Meets in Abuja Today

Governors under the aegis of Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) will meet today in Abuja to deliberate on pressing national issues.

The meeting would be the second the forum will be holding in the year and is expected to be attended by the 36 state governors.

A source at the NGF Secretariat said yesterday that the governors would use the meeting to review their stance on the ongoing constitution amendment process and the country's security challenges with a view to proffering solutions.

According to the source, the governors will also deliberate on the 2013 budget and the forum's litigation against the Federal Government at the Supreme Court. The governors are presently challenging the Federal Government's deductions from the Excess Crude Account to offset fuel subsidy.

The governors are uncomfortable with the continued deduction of oil subsidy money from the excess crude account, saying the deduction negated the principle of federalism and budgetary provision.
