Ethiopia: South Darfur Speaker Welcomes DDPD Progress

The Speaker of the South Darfur legislature, Ali Adam, has said that implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) is showing noticeable progress.

He declared that Qatar has laid the foundation for five model villages to facilitate the voluntary return of refugees and internally displaced people from camps. He also said the Darfur states and the people of Darfur were beginning to see discernible stability following the first steps of the implementation of the agreement.

The Speaker expressed his optimism about continued implementation of the DDPD. He welcomed the political will being demonstrated by Darfur citizens, and called on the non-signatory parties to join the agreement. He noted the importance of refraining from any measures including violence that could undermine the stability of the region.
