Kenya: Mombasa Cord Team Hit By Infighting

Two womens lobby groups allied to the Cord coalition in Mombasa are at loggerheads over governor aspirants Hassan Joho and Suleiman Shahbal.

The infighting began after Cord presidential candidate Raila Odinga's wife Ida endorsed Joho for the seat at the weekend when she toured Mombasa. Unhappy with the move, Cord Women for Suleiman Shahbal on Monday said the endorsement shows there is mistrust in the coalition.

Yesterday, Cord Women for Joho convened a press conference at the party offices where they said Joho is the best placed candidate for the job as he is tried and tested.

A member of the Shahbal lobby group, Millicent Odhiambo, told the Star every candidate in the coalition should be given a level playing ground to look for votes.

Yesterday, the Joho lobby group's chair Patricia Nzioka said they will vote in a six-piece pattern adding that everyone is free to chose whoever they like.
