Eritrea: Temperate Fruit Farming On Ait'abir Mountain Described Effective

Asmara — Reports indicated that temperate fruit farming on the plateau of Ait'abir Mountain, which was set up by the Administration of the Central region, has become effective. Accordingly, sizeable volume of peach and apple harvest is expected after two months from 18 hectares.

Mr. Getahun Teklemariam, coordinator of the project, pointed out that such accomplishment is a stepping stone towards expanding the practice of temperate fruit farming in the region, besides its input in the local markets.

Among the employees of the farm, Ms. Mebrat Tesfamichael and Ms. Meaza Tsegai lauded the government's commitment to promote irrigation farming nationwide, and expressed satisfaction with the employment opportunity the farm has created in the area.

Stepped up endeavors are being exerted by the Agriculture Ministry's branch in the Central regional targeting wide introduction of temperate fruits, the reports added.
