North-East Coordinator, Transformation Agenda for Jonathan 2015, Alhaji Ado Adamu (Bonboy), has dismissed the claim that four political parties that formed the All Progressive Congress (APC) were a threat to the PDP.
"We are not afraid of Merger," he told journalists in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital, and said that merger was a normal political move that could never be of any threat to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) just as he noted that the merger was not borne out of any ideological persuasion.
According to him, merging of political parties is not alien to the political history of Nigeria as there was similar merging of political parties in the country during the first republic. And also there are other political mergers this time.
Adamu said that, it would have been a major threat to the ruling party if the merger was driven by ideology other than individuals and their positions.
He added that, "let me tell you, if they were driven by ideology then there would be reasons for us to think about merger. But this so-called merger of political parties is just a thing that will come and pass. PDP will rule this country for another 30 years coming. Only God can stop Jonathan" he said.
The coordinator stressed that the recent political merger would not bring anything positive to the polity. What we have now is just realignment. It is no big deal; PDP will continue to rule this country.
