The Congress of South African Trade Unions in the North West will be going back to the most expensive toll gate in the country the Swartruggens plaza on 22 February 2013 as a continuation of its campaign to fight against e-tolling and the privatisation of public goods.
COSATU is disappointed that our own government has failed to meet the demands of its citizens to remove the toll gate or reduce the toll fee, as it is a burden to the poor people of this province.
What is also worrying is that almost all the roads which can be used by motorists to avoid this toll gate are in very bad condition and the government is doing nothing to fix those roads.
The road that people will be using when we are marching is in very bad condition and we are asking motorists not to risk with their lives but join us to fight against the most expensive toll gate in the country,
It must be on record that the people of Pela also want their road to be improved and not to be used when people are running away from our action on the N4 road.
As COSATU we will not give up this campaign until our demands are met by government and therefore we will be going back to the Swartruggens plaza on 22 February 2013 from 12h00 to 19h00.
We call on our government to suspend the payment increase until the task team concludes its work and there must be no increase for this year as we know that this toll gate’s fee is increasing annually to meet the profit of the capitalists from the poor working class.
The task team must speed up their work, which include the alternative road, the status of our roads and reducing the expensive toll gate.
We agree to give the task team time, provided the payment of the expensive toll gate is suspended and we want to make it clear we have no relationship with Sanral but with our government which we voted in.
COSATU calls on the members of society and the motorists who are affected by this high toll fee to join us in the fight against the neoliberal agenda which wants to take over our democracy and take over our country.
Media is requested to expose this toll gate and the profit they are making out of the poor working class of this province.
