Angola: State Secretary Outlines Actions for Toxic Waste Removal

Benguela — The Secretary of State of Interior for Civil Protection and Fire Department, Eugénio Laborinho, defended the urgent need to undertake a study on environmental impact aimed at immediate removal of toxic waste from the Industrial Complex of Pulp and Paper of Angola (CCPA).

Eugénio Laborinho was speaking to the reporters Tuesday in Ganda district, southern Benguela province after a visit to the Industrial Complex.

He said that the study should be based on a joint work due to the risks in the contaminated areas in the aforementioned premise.

The official stressed the urgent need so that structures linked to the sectors of Environment, Science and Technology, Higher Education and other areas can take advantage of the psychological knowledge that ensure safety among the population.

To Eugénio Laborinho, the existence of these chemicals has caused some complications to the health of local populations, calling for the conclusion of the process underway for over 15 years.

The removal process of toxic waste has been in progress since 2011.
