AN unknown man whose body was found hanging in the veld in the Otjomuise area of Windhoek over the past weekend has now been identified, the police reported yesterday.
The man is thought to have committed suicide by hanging himself, the police's Khomas regional commander, Deputy Commissioner Silvanus Nghishidimbwa, said on Sunday.
His decomposing body was found by people collecting wood in the veld on Saturday morning. It is estimated that the man could have been hanging where he was found for about a week, Nghishidimbwa said.
The man has now been identified as Shekutamba Junias (41), Nghishidimbwa added yesterday.
He also announced that a 23-year-old employee of the Ministry of Finance was found hanged in her home in Hakahana in Windhoek on Friday morning. She was identified as Teresia Kamati yesterday.
Kamati had gone to work that morning, but returned home, and was found hanging from a rope in her shack house later that day, he said. No suicide note was found, he said.
Nghishidimbwa also issued a warning that cases of theft out of cars appear to be on the increase in Windhoek.
In some instances car windows are smashed by thieves, while in others cars have been opened possibly with the use of jamming devices which prevent the locking of a car with the use of a car alarm remote control, he said.
He advised drivers to ensure that their cars are properly locked, and not to leave any valuable or enticing items lying in a visible place inside a car.
