Namibia: Alleged Baby Killer, Lamberth, Denied Bail

Windhoek — The man who allegedly murdered his stepchild over the weekend was on Tuesday denied bail in the Katutura Magistrate's Court. Magistrate Oupa J.J. Britz denied Zanie Lamberth (24) bail and the matter was remanded to May 13.

The accused faces a charge of murder, assault and intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The infant was allegedly killed on Saturday, after her mother ran away to escape an attack by the man she has been living with, causing him to vent his anger on her baby.

Media reports indicated that the trail of violence started last week Wednesday when the suspect allegedly tear-gassed his girlfriend, Walburga Christiaan, before stabbing her with a knife.

On the Friday Christiaan spent the night with friends and the accused allegedly kidnapped her daughter.

When the mother realised that her daughter had been kidnapped she phoned a friend to tell her boyfriend to return the baby, but the boyfriend allegedly ran away from their home in the Havana informal settlement.
