Uyo — Akwa Ibom State chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr Unyime Usoro, yesterday berated management of the state's university in Mkpat-Enin Local Government Area for suppressing union activities in the campus.
Usoro said in an interview with Daily Trust that the antagonistic posture of AKSU management to union activities on campus in the past four years was an indication that the management is not transparent.
"The management and the governing council of the university has something to hide, the issue of good governance is zero there. They are not transparent, we are ready to move in there as soon as we have finished consultation," he said.
He alleged that workers at the university earn less than other workers in the state polytechnic and college of education respectively.
Our correspondent reports that ASUU, SSANU and NASU had earlier asked the institution's management to stop the on-going recruitment exercise until outstanding issues are resolved.
