Nigeria: Crisis in Bauchi College Over Re-Appointment of Registrar

Bauchi — Governing council of the College of Education, Azare, Bauchi State and the Academic Staff Union of the institution, have disagreed over the re appointment of the registrar of the college, Aliyu Shehu.

Following the disagreement, the union embarked on an indefinite strike, and government ordered the students to vacate the school. The government, it was gathered, also told the striking teachers that if they want to continue with their work, they should indicate interest before the end of the month.

Chairman of the union, Comrade Sanusi Ibrahim Chinade, accused the college governing council of not following due process in the appointment.

He said a letter was officially addressed to the governing council of the institution, warning it to forget about the idea of re-appointing Aliyu Shehu as registrar. But provost of the college, Dr. Garba Ibrahim, has defended the actions of the governing council, saying it followed due process in the appointment.
