Nigeria: Flood - Kogi Govt Distributes N139 Million to Affected LGs

Lokoja — The Kogi State Government has given out the sum of N139,500,000.00 to the nine affected flood ravaged local government areas in the state.

The local governments which were categorized into three groups of A, B and C were given the money to assist them in taking care of the victims in the post flood management.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Yabaji Bologi said yesterday while briefing newsmen after a meeting of the Ad- Hoc Committee on flood, headed by the state Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi.

" Councils in category A got N20m each while those in B got N15m and those in group C got N10m each. Councils in category A include Ibaji, Lokoja, Bassa while Kogi, Ajaokuta and Idah are in category B.

Igalamela-Odolu, Ofu and Omala Local Government Areas are in category C," he said.

Yabagi Bologi, said the steps taken by the state government as first of its kind in affected states was aimed at ameliorating the sufferings of those affected by the flood.

He said aside the amount given to the councils, sectoral support, building destroyed infrastructures, building of 1000 houses, schools, roads and other measures aimed at reducing the effect of the flood on affected persons would also be pursued.
