Nigeria: Ekiti Teachers Seek Legal Backing for Tutor-General's Office

Ado-Ekiti — Teachers under the aegis of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS) in Ekiti State will soon sponsor a bill to the state House of Assembly to give the office of Tutor General legal backing.

Chairman of the union, Mr. Sola Adigun, who dropped the hint yesterday in Ijero Ekiti, said the move is to checkmate the indiscriminate scrapping of the office, which is the highest teaching position.

He spoke at the presentation of some office accessories to the three tutor generals' offices located in the community, Ikere and Ikole Ekiti. According to him, giving the office a legal backing would guarantee its continuity and effectiveness.

The ASUSS chairman's comment is in response to the remarks earlier made by the Tutor General in Ekiti Central, Pastor Dipo Adelugba, that the office had no legal backing.
