Abuja — The All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) has said the opposition coalition parties have not decided on any candidate as the flag bearer of the new merger party, All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2015 presidential election.

The party's National Vice-Chairman (South-east) and Secretary of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) merger committee, Chief George Muoghalu, said thursday that what the merging parties agreed to do was to create an internal democratic structures, where every individual would be free to pursue his ambition.

"I have been in this merger process from the beginning, there was no time the issue of candidacy was discussed, our concentration now is to pull all resources together to make sure that we get the APC registered as a full-fledged political party," he said.

Muoghalu, who spoke to THISDAY against the background of reports that General Muhammad Buhari, had been given the presidential ticket, said the practice of imposing candidates would have no room in APC.

He said the parties were working hard to install a strong democratic structure where if an aspirant context for a position and lost he or she can pick a telephone and congratulate the winner.

"What we want to do, in my position as the ANPP merger committee secretary, our vision is to create a viable and democratic political party, where everyone will be free to pursue their ambition, an institution that would be democratic in action and also in deed.

"An institution that would practice internal democracy to have people practice democracy such that even if you lose, you can pick your phone and congratulate the winner, imposition of candidate have no root here, the issue of candidate has not risen at all. People may have their opinion, but as a political party, this things have not been discussed," he said.

On the issue of logo, the former ANPP National Secretary stated that the merger committee was still in the process of consultations over the proper logo to adopt.

"The APC has not come up with a final position as to the logo. But we reached a consensus at the last meeting, however, we are still discussing because we must take the various interest into account, most importantly, the interest of Nigerians.

"We have not reached a conclusion on the logo and we are working on it. I am sure in matter of weeks, like we agreed on the name, we are going to present a logo that will be acceptable to Nigerians," he said.
