Nigeria: Aig Hands Cheques to Families of Deceased Cops

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Suleiman Abba, in charge of Zone 7, comprising of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kaduna and Niger States, today, presented cheques to 33 families of police men who were killed on duty or suffered serious injuries.

29 next of kin of police men were presented cheques not above N500.000, with the lowest recipient collecting N350.000, while 4 police men injured in the line of duty were given cheques to pay their hospital bills.

Speaking during the presentation at the Wuse 3/ Zone 7 police headquarters in Abuja, AIG Suleiman Abba said it is based on the order of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, to decentralize some activities at the Force headquarters, and to make it easier for beneficiaries who come from far to get their claims.

He said, "The money is for those who died in the line of duty, by the arrangement of the Nigerian police and an insurance company to alleviate the suffering of their dependents." Adding that, "they should invest the money in education, agriculture and sustainable businesses."

Meanwhile, AIG Abba, also decorated eight recently promoted officer of the Zone 7 headquarters, with their new ranks, four were superintendents of police (SP) promoted to chief superintendents of police (CSP), while the other four were Assistant superintendents of police (ASP),promoted to deputy superintendents of police(DSP).

He admonished the newly promoted officers to work harder so as to justify the confidence the IGP has bestowed on them.
