Nigeria: Police Arraign Man for Misappropriation of Funds

The police on Thursday arraigned Joseph Omachoko, a staff member of Sunoni Lodge, Wuse 2, Abuja, before an Abuja Senior Magistrates' Court for alleged misappropriation of funds.

Omachoko, a cashier, was said to have misappropriated N8.6 million belonging to Sunoni Lodge of 40, Birao St., Wuse 2, Abuja, without the consent of the management. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The police prosecutor, Sgt. Abdullahi Adamu, told the court that the accused was reported at the Wuse Police Station by one Nnaemeka Agbasi of Suite 09, Jinifa Plaza, Central Area, on July 26, 2012.

According to Adamu, the accused dishonestly converted the said money to his personal use, contrary to sections 312 and 309 of the Penal Code.

Following an application the defence counsel, Senior Magistrate Aliyu Shafa granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties who must be civil servants on not less than GL10 and above.

He added that the sureties must reside within the FCT and adjourned the matter to March 14 for further hearing. NAN
