Nigeria: Families of Slain Policemen Get Benefits

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Suleiman Abba, in charge of Zone 7 yesterday presented cheques to 33 families of police men who were killed on duty or suffered serious injuries. 29 next of kins of affected policemen were presented cheques not above N500,000, with the lowest recipient collecting N350,000, while 4 policemen injured were a given cheques to pay their hospital bills.

Speaking during the presentation at the Wuse 3/Zone 7 police headquarters in Abuja, AIG Suleiman Abba said it is based on the order of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, to decentralize some activities at the Force headquarters, and to make it easier for beneficiaries who come from far to get their claims.

He said, "The money is for those who died in the line of duty, by the arrangement of the Nigerian police and an insurance company to alleviate the suffering of their dependents." Adding that, "they should invest the money in education, agriculture and sustainable businesses."
