Gambia: Two Convicted of Theft

Two people in the persons of Alhagie Yunus Barry and Ousman Camara, both residents of Brusubi in the Kombo North District of the West Coast Region, were on Monday convicted and sentenced at the Bundung Magistrates' Court. The case was presided over by Magistrate Landing .M. Sanneh.

The two were sentenced to one year and seven months jail term each on count one with hard labour, after being found guilty of stealing a laptop.

The particulars of the offence stated that on the 19th August 2012 at Brusubi, the two convicts jointly stole one laptop valued at D18, 000, being the property of one Kebba Lamin Drammeh, thereby committed an offense. During the trial, the prosecutor handling the case Cpl 3466 Sawaneh called three witnesses, whilst the convict testified alone.

However, they were sentenced accordingly by the presiding magistrate.
