United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Rajiv Shah on Thursday (February 21st) announced $20 million in funding to support health, food and education programmes in Somalia, Radio Muqdisho reported.
Shah made the announcement during a meeting with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud a month after the United States officially recognised the Somali government.
US Assistant Secretary of State Johnnie Carson said in January that the recognition would enable the Somali government to establish new relationships with USAID and other development partners in the US government.
