Kenya: Kibaki Announces National Land Commission After Court Order

Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki officially published the names of the nine commissioners of the National Land Commission (NLC) on Wednesday (February 20th) after a Kenyan High Court directed him to do so, Kenya's Daily Nation reported.

The members were approved by parliament in August 2012, but were not published before a court ruling demanded that Kibaki release the names by February 11th.

Chairman of the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution Charles Nyachae said Kibaki set a dangerous precedent by failing to comply with the court order, especially since respecting the authority of the courts is crucial to ensuring stability after the upcoming election.

The chairman of the commission is Mohammed Swazuri and its members are Tomiik Konyimbi, Rose Musyoka, Samuel Tororei, Silas Kinoti, Abigael Mbagaya, Muthoni Njogu, Clement Lenanchuru and Adan Khalif.
