Uganda: Blick Could Face Sekajugo in UOC Polls

UGANDA Olympic Committee (UOC) acting president William Blick will not claim the position on silver plate.

Indications are that Blick will face off with renowned sports medicine doctor James Ssekajugo when UOC holds its elective assembly on March 6.

Blick who took up the position after former UOC president Roger Ddungu suffered a vote of no confidence has already been nominated and will hand in the forms before the process closes on Saturday at 5:00pm.

"I have already signed eight partnerships with sports organisations in Europe that will help us develop sports in Uganda. I would like to carry on with the development of sports," Blick remarked in an interview.

Sekajugo neither denied nor confirmed his candidature when contacted by New Vision Sport.

"I am part of the Olympic movement and if I am to contest you will see my nominations forms. As of now I am not. I would serve if they want me to serve in any capacity. I have served sports globally and locally and I will continue with or without being elected. An election doesn't make you contribute more to sports. I am sorry I haven't given you a straight answer but that's it for now," Sekajugo

UOC general secretary Peninah Kabenge who had earlier been tipped to contest for presidency said she had not even made up her mind on whether to retain her current position.

"I will be away in Belgium attending an International Universities executive meeting which is very crucial. I would don't it would be a good idea to contest in absentia. I am most unlikely to contest so don't be surprised if I don't return my nomination form," Kabenge explained.

Blick's team is likely to have Denis Galabuzi (V.P Technical), Ambrose Tashobya (V.P Administration),Don on Rukare( Gen secretary), Moses Mwase (assistant Sec), Moses Nuwagaba (Treasurer) and Sadik Nassiwu as one of the four committee members.

UOC sources expect Sekajugo's team to front Kebenge (Gen Secretary), Gabriel Oloka (VP Technical),  Salim Musoke (Treasurer), Edgar Watson (VP Administration), Hannington Musoke (Assistant Sec).
