Kenya: 13 Ethiopians Arrested At Makueni

Police in Emali, Makueni yesterday night nabbed 13 Ethiopian nationals being ferried in a Nissan Matatu believed to have been headed to Nairobi.

Speaking to the press, Makueni OCPD Joshua Ole Leina said the arrest was made at about 2.30am following an anonymous call. Leina said the caller told them the matatu had been carjacked along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway and had several occupants inside.

"My officers acted immediately and found the vehicle parked outside Emali slaughter house with three men waiting outside," he said. He said the men fled following a brief confrontation and the officers found the Ethiopians "bundled" at the rear of the matatu. Leina said police are looking for the three escapee and will take the Ethiopians to court once investigations are over.
