Kenya: Kuppet Wants Principal in Form 1 Selection

The teachers union in Narok county has asked the ministry of education to revert to the old form one selection system.

Led by the branch Executive Secretary George Adera the officials criticised the recent form one selection in which area principals were not involved in the selection exercise and were instead given a prepared list of students admitted in their schools.

The officials said students should be allowed to go to the schools they choose and if they do not meet the pass mark they should be allowed to go to their second option and not be forced to go to schools they did not want.

The officials who were addressing journalists in Kilgoris town yesterday evening also faulted the ministry of Education for setting the reporting date for form one students this week yet schools would be closed next week for elections.

"The form one students should have been allowed to report to their new schools after the general election since it will be a waste of time and resources for them to come to school and then go back home in less than a week," said Adera.
