Sokoto State outgoing Head of Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Wali, Friday said the state government will commence the payment of N18,000 minimum wage to staff of local government councils in the state.
Wali made the remark while handing over notes to the new Head of Service, Mohammed Bature Shinkafi at Cabinet Office in Sokoto.
He attributed the delay in the implementation of the new minimum wage, to the inability of the Committee on Verification of Local Government Staff, to complete its assignment.
Wali pointed out that the work on data collection and assessment of personnel of local councils was more than envisaged by the Committee, hence the delay in the completion of their mandate.
"As you aware, the work on the verification of staff of 23 local government councils is more enormous than we expected.
"But I assure you that the committee will complete the assignment before the end of this month and by God's grace, the new minimum wage will be paid March," Wali said.
Wali called on the new Head of Service to justify the confidence reposed in him by the state government by working assiduously to uplift the civil service.
He also charged him to carry all staff along in the implementation of government policies and programmes.
In a remark, the new Head of Service, Alhaji Bature Shinkafi, pledged to build on the legacies of his predecessor to ensure a robust and efficient civil service.
He assured that he would do his best to reform the state civil service to regain its lost glory.
