Angola: Vice President to Travel to Addis Ababa Saturday

Addis Ababa — Angolan Vice President, Manuel Vicente, is expected this Saturday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to participate on Sunday in the summit on peace and security in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and in the Great Lakes Region, a event that is to gather representatives of about ten African states.

Manuel Vicente will be representing in the gathering the Angolan Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos.

According to Angola's representative in the African Union, Arcanjo do Nascimento, the document was also signed by the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Ban Ki-moon, who is the mentor of this proposal, the chairwoman of the AU Commission, Nkosozana Zuma, and the chairman of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), Mozambican President Armando Emílio Guebuza.

The Angolan diplomat said that in view of the consultations carried out until February 15, the agreement aims at eradicating the profound causes behind the cycle of conflicts in the DRC and the Great Lakes Region.

This gathering, he said, has the goal to mobilise the international community to help the DRC and the Great Lakes Region.
