Tunisia: NCA Speaker Confers With European Parliament Delegation

Tunis — The political situation in Tunisia and the democratic transition process were the focus of a meeting, on Friday in Bardo, between National Constituent Assembly (NCA) speaker Mustapha Ben Jaafar and a delegation of the European parliament (the Greens).

Ben Jaafar indicated that the assassination of Chokri Belaid, February 6, is a turning point in Tunisia's democratic transition process, adding that this tragedy should incite the political players to "hold dialogue and broaden consensus to ensure the success of this phase, by setting dates for the completion of the constitution and the next elections, while establishing a pact of anti-violence coexistence attached to a Tunisian moderate society."

The members of the European parliament delegation voiced in turn interest in the democratic transition experience in Tunisia, indicating that "the success of this experience will have a positive impact on the entire region."
