Egypt: Brotherhood Party Says Opposition's Boycott Shows Failure

Media spokesman of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party, Mourad Aly, said on Sunday that the opposition's threats to boycott the upcoming parliamentary elections only show failure to reach the people.

The four-stage elections will begin on Monday, April 22, ending in early June.

"I do not see any justification for the opposition to boycott elections, which will be conducted under complete judicial supervision, the watch of the entire world and media outlets that are watching Islamist forces closely, but in fear for the world to be confronted with its real popularity on the ground," Aly said.

The National Salvation Front (NSF), Egypt's main opposition coalition that groups a number of political party including Mohamed ElBaradei's, had announced its intention to boycott the upcoming parliamentary elections unless conditions it had listed are met.

The Front had requested an unbiased government and guarantees for the transparency of the elections.

The Popular Current, led by opposition figure Hamdeen Sabahi, who is also a member of the NSF, had also officially announced that it would boycott the elections.
