Zambia: Mosi Lager Music Awards On Tonight

IT'S another exciting day in the history of Zambian music as the best of the best singers and musicians are poised for recognition in the first-ever Mosi Lager Zambian Music Awards taking place tonight at the new Government Complex Banquet Hall in Lusaka.

With the controversy of categories and nominations now history, the focus will be on who gets the awards after voters cast their votes via SMS and WEB.

During the more than a month of voting, many artistes campaigned to voters on social media platforms and now it's time to see whose message and music appealed to the voters out there.

One of the attractions of the night is the continued rivalry between Kopala' s Macky II and Lusaka's Slap D who have garnered more nominations than anyone with eight and seven nominations, respectively.

The two rappers will go head-to-head in the Best Rap Album, Song-of-the-Year, Album-of-the-Year, Best Male Contemporary and Best Hip Hop song category.

Sensational gospel artiste Pompi will also hope to outdo his secular colleagues in the Best Hip Hop album category, while he is also up against fellow gospel great Kings Malembe Malembe in the Best Gospel Album category and Best Gospel Male artiste category.

Another highlight of the award is the best female Album contemporary that pits Mampi, Kay Kanyelele and Judy Yo. Mampi is again nominated in three other categories; Best Female artiste contemporary, Best Dancehall artiste and Best Female Vocalists.

The organisers of the awards have also decided to honour a musician with a Lifetime Achievement award which will be decided by the adjudicators led by Jagari Chanda. Webster Malama, John Mwesa and Alice Chali are the veteran artistes that are up for the Lifetime Achievement Award.

A total number of 31 awards will be given out tonight in the KR 1 million rich Mosi Lager Zambian Music Awards.

With many awards before embroiled in controversy and poor organisations, the hope for many music lovers and Zambians at large is that Zambian Breweries together with its events managers did all the home work and put up a great awards ceremony.
