TRADING activities at the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) dropped by more than six times than the previous session with a total of 590,745 shares transacted, compared to 3,838,099 shares which changed hands in the preceding week.
Turnovers, according to the Tanzania Securities Limited (TSL) during the period under review were lower, by almost five times compared to the previous performance.
Likewise, the week-on-week turnover decreased to 283m/- from 1.56bn/- of the last session. Foreign participation accounted for 23 per cent of the week's turnover. Indices closed the week in red pulled down by CRDB counter that lost 20/- to close at 140/- per share.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange All Share Index (DSEI) lost 0.02 per cent to 1499.53 points. Similarly, the Tanzania Share Index (TSI) closed at 0.67 per cent down at 1,489.24 points. The Banking segment Index settled 1,181.22 points, a 2.41 per cent weaker than previous week due to the decline of CRDB's price.
However, NMB gained 20/- to close the week at 1,180/-. The Industrial and Allied Index strengthened further to 1,821.61 points with 5.6 per cent rise, buoyed by Swissport and TBL counters gain which 40/- and 100/- to 1,860/- and 3,100/- respectively.
During the period under review, the banking sector remained active and liquid than the Industrial segment moving 54 per cent of total turnover and 92 per cent of the market activity. Foreign investors' participation on the banking industry was 23 per cent of the week's turnover supporting the CRDB and NMB counters.
NMB had 72,960 shares transacted at price range of between 1,160/- and 1,180. CRDB ended the week at a price lower by 13 per cent than last period transacting 469,476 shares throughout at a price range of between 140/- and 160/-. Twiga traded 25,124 shares at 2,600/- per share.
The counter was the most active counter among the Industrial segment. TBL counter transacted 16,805 shares at price range of between 3, 000/- and 3,100/- per share.
Simba and Swissport were the other counters traded during the week with 4,317 Swissport shares changing hands at 1,860/- per share. Simba counter had 1,913 shares traded at 2,400/- per share. There were no activities on TCC, TTP, TOL and Precision Air during the week.
