Sudan: Militants Set Fire to Farmlands in Sirba, West Darfur

Sirba — Vast areas in Kendebe, Bir Dageeg, Sir Tamaj and Gado, Sirba locality in West Darfur were set ablaze; destroying farms, plantations and trees.

A source from the area told Radio Dabanga that pro-government militants, stationed in the area, set fire to the areas starting on Friday and were still continuing on Sunday.

It was reported that the stretches of land on which the fires raged cover an area of about 7 kilometers. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, the source claimed that residents from the affected areas informed local civil administration leaders as well as militia leaders about the incident, but were threatened by them instead of offered help to put out the fires.

Moreover, the source said that one of the militia leaders said: "from now on everybody bears his own responsibility."
