Nigeria: Government Re-Appoints Idoko As NACA Boss

President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the reappointment of Prof. John Idoko for another term of four years as the Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA).

The approval was conveyed to the Director-General through a letter signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, which noted that his reappointment "is a reflection of the President's confidence and trust in you" The appointment takes effect from March 3, 2013.

Idoko once served as Principal Investigator of the Harvard University/AIDS Prevention Initiative Nigeria, (APIN); Presidential Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) programme at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), Jos. The antiretroviral clinic (ART), at JUTH, Plateau State cares for about 20,000 patients with HIV.

He was also President of the Nigerian AIDS Research Network from 2002 to 2008, Chairman Nigerian National Antiretroviral Committee 2001 to 2009 before his appointment as the Director General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) in Nigeria in 2009.
