Governor Ramalan Yero of Kaduna state has called on the people of the state to remain calm after gunmen killed five people on Sunday at a village in Zango Kataf local government area of the state.
The attackers reportedly stormed a compound and opened fire on members of a family observing the anniversary of the death of the leader of the family.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Kaduna state has seen similar shootings where gunmen raid villages killing scores in what police often treat as armed robbery attacks.
A statement signed by Ahmed Maiyaki, Director General, media and publicity to the governor, described as unfounded and false the rumour of crises in the metropolis.
The governor said he has ordered an immediate investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators in an apparent effort to douse tension in the volatile state.
The governor's statement follows rumours in Kaduna metropolis of breakdown of law and order in parts of the town.
The governor also directed security agencies to maintain law and order in the area and the state as well as protect lives and properties of the people.
Gov Yero however warned that the government will deal decisively with any persons found disrupting peace and order in the state and therefore call on people to remain law abiding and peaceful.
