Lagos State Government Saturday debunked speculations that terrorists operating under the aegis of Boko Haram and its breakaway faction, Jama'atu Ansaral Muslimana Fi Biladis, would attack the state.

The state government however urged the residents of the state "to ignore the threats and go about their normal social and economic activities," while assuring them of the security of lives and properties.

Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, and his information counterpart, Mr. Aderemi Ibirogba, discarded the speculations after the monthly sanitation exercise, which they monitored along with top state officials.

Bello explained that the state government had put measures in place to ensure the protection of lives and properties across all Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.

He added that the state government and all the security agencies "are already working on security reports available to them," noting that the state government would continue to work with all security agencies to ensure protection of lives and properties.

He added that the decision to send transporters under the bridge in Ojuelegba packing became necessary "to clean up the place and get rid of some unscrupulous element hiding in the garage to perpetrate evil".

The commissioner further explained that the Kick against Indiscipline (KAI) would continue to occupy the garage and ensure the transporters polluting the place do not return to the spot and constitute nuisance.

Also speaking, Ibirogba said Lagos is safe. "Lagos residents should not entertain any fear. We have done all we are supposed to do to ensure security and safety.

Residents should go about their normal duties without entertaining fear. "The idea of Boko Haram coming to attack Lagos is nothing, but to scare anybody."

This is a proactive government and Lagos residents have confidence in their government. Lagos is home to everybody.

"I do not think anybody in a right frame of mind will want to extend act of terrorism or violence to Lagos. No matter how you look at it people have one interest or the other in Lagos," Ibirogba explained.

Meanwhile, the state government has tightened security at the state secretariat in Alausa, especially the entrance gates to the offices of Governor Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and his deputy, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefilure.

The security personnel also denied some public servants who had functions to carry out in their offices access to the state secretariat complex, explaining that they were acting on order from their superior officers.
