Niger State Governor and Chairman, Northern States Governors 'Forum (NSGF), Dr. Babangida Aliyu, has declared that those who killed under the guise of Islam were ignorant of its tenets.

He said as a religion that places premium on peace, its adherents should use it to champion the development of their communities and the country.

Governor Aliyu who stated this in Sokoto at the golden jubilee celebration of Alhuda Old Boys Association (AOBA) charged the northern elite to educate their people and other Nigerians on what Islam represents.

While noting that the ability to cater for one's family is the first criteria for marriage, Dr. Aliyu said "marriage is not compulsory if one cannot take care of his children."
