Nigeria: JTF Kills Two Suspected Gunmen, Arrests Four Others in Kano

Kano — The Joint Security Task Force (JTF) on Saturday shot dead two suspected gunmen and arrested four others in the Kano metropolis.

An eye-witness on condition of anonymity said that the incident happened around 1:00 p.m. at a security check-point on Hadeja Road in Kano City.

The witness said the incident occurred during 'a stop and search' on a commercial vehicle at the check-point.

"It was in the process that one of the passengers opened fire on the operatives at the check point and as a result one soldier was injured.

"Soon after that the security operatives responded by killing the attacker instantly," the source said.

It was learnt that another passenger in the vehicle brought out a knife and tried to attack the solders but he was also shot dead instantly.

When contacted, the JTF Spokesman, Capt. Ikedichi Iweha, confirmed the incident and the killing of the two gunmen.

He said the incident happened at a check-point when the operatives were carrying out a search on a commercial vehicle when a passenger opened fire on the soldiers.

Iweha said that two suspects were shot dead while four others were arrested during the incident.

The spokesman said that investigation had since commenced to ascertain the identities of the suspects while security had also been beefed up in the area. (NAN).
