Nigeria, Brazil Call for 'Urgent' UN Security Council Reform

The Nigerian leader and his Brazilian counterpart met on Saturday.

Nigeria's President, Goodluck Jonathan, and his Brazilian counterpart, Dilma Rousseff, have called for urgent reform of the United Nations Security Council.

Both leaders met on Saturday in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, for talks expected to boost trade between both countries.

At the end of the meeting, they called for urgent reform of the Security Council to make it more democratic and reflective of global changes since 1946.

Nigeria is Brazil's major commercial partner in Africa. Bilateral trade between the two countries has gone up from$1.5 billion (N225 billion) in 2002 to $9 billion (N1.4 trillion) in 2012.
