Tanzania: Sports Minister to Grace Kilimanjaro Marathon

THE Minister for Information, Youth, Culture and Sports Dr Fenella Mukangara will be the Guest of Honour at the 11th Kilimanjaro Marathon scheduled to take place on March 3, this year in Moshi.

The Managing Director of Executive Solutions, Aggrey Marealle said in a statement that Minister Mukangara will flag off the event which is expected to be attended by over 6,000 runners from over 40 countries and she will be the main guest at the prize giving ceremony where she will present the prize monies to winners of the 42km Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Marathon.

"Dr Mukangara has accepted to flag off the race and present prizes to ten winners of the 42km Kilimanjaro Premium Lager Marathon for both men and women categories," said Marealle. The Kilimanjaro Regional Commissioner will also be among the prominent guests at the event.

He said that Kilimanjaro Marathon is an event that continues to raise the profile of Tanzania internationally every year, has helped to identify and provide opportunity for the local athletic talent to excel and has boosted tourism to Tanzania while creating a much anticipated event for everyone's enjoyment.

He said the race complies with international standards and its logistics is run by the Kilimanjaro Marathon Club, Athletics Tanzania and the Kilimanjaro Amateur Athletics Association. In order to ensure safety of runners, certain roads in and around Moshi will be closed from 0615 a.m. to 0930 a.m. on the 3rd March 2013 to allow runners to pass safely.

Tanzania Breweries with their Kilimanjaro Premium Lager brand are the main sponsors to the marathon and the after party festivities. They have been sponsoring the event since its inception in 2003. Their promotion and marketing of the event has boosted the race tremendously.

They have continued to show their immense commitment to the race this year. Executive Solutions are local coordinators of the event while co-sponsors of the event include Vodacom Tanzania (5km Fun Run), GAPCO (Disabled Half Marathon), Tanga Cement, CFAO Motors, KK Security, Keys Hotel, TPC Sugar, TanzaniteOne, New Arusha Hotel, UNFPA, Fastjet and Kilimanjaro Water.
