Nigeria: NNPC/Shell Cup Q-Finals Begin Thursday

The 2013 edition of the All Nigeria Secondary Schools Football Championship tagged NNPC/Shell Cup enters the quarter finals Thursday with 10 schools vying for the four semi final tickets available, National Coordinator of the competition, Shola Akinwale has said.

At the Shagamu centre, Oyo State representatives, Govrnment College, Ibadan will square up against Edo State flagbearers, Henson Demonstration Secondary School, Benin while the Port Harcourt centre will host the ties between Annuciation Secondary School, Ikere, Akunne Onah Memorial Secondary School, Onitsha and Purple Krown College, Enugu.

Sani Dingyadi Secondary School, Sokoto and Government Secondary School, Wuse in the FCT will battle first at the Minna centre and the winner will play Government Comprehensive Day Secondary School, Bauchi which drew bye.

The last quarter final match will be played at the Kaduna centre between champions of Kano State, Government Arabic College, Gwale and Borno flagbearers, Government College, Maiduguri.

The cash prizes at stake, Akinwale disclosed, are N2.5 million for the champions, N1.4 million for the second placed team while the third and fourth placed teams will earn N500,000 and N400,000 respectively.

This is apart from the cash prizes which the individual players from each school will get. According to the Coordinator, the 20 players from the winning school will get N50,000 each.
