Forty Three thousand children die yearly within their first month of life while 6,000 women die annually from pregnancy related complications. A new maternity wing has been launched at the Royal Gardens Hospital in an effort to reduce maternal and newborn deaths. Charles Wasike from the hospital says they will offer maternity services at subsidized rates to encourage women to give birth in a health facility.
