Foundation 'BUGANALA' a Dutch charity that has been working in The Gambia for ten years, in collaboration with Sport City-The Netherlands recently conducted a two-day sporting activity at the Brikama Lower Basic School, in the West Coast Region.
The training was based on the equipping of Physical Education teachers who will later impart the knowledge gained to others. Speaking to reporters at the event, Stan, a physical education instructor from Sport City, said they are in The Gambia not to only train the PHE teachers within the four corners of the Gambia college, but also ensure that they impart those knowledge and skills to the younger students at schools level. "Involving learners in sporting exercises will help them to comprehend the pre-requite knowledge of those games and in the near future," he said.
Stan further stated that they're not only here to teach the teachers and pupils but to also provide them with the necessary teaching and learning resources ranging from football to volleyball, goalposts, nets etc. He said, last year they donated some of the above-mentioned materials to schools such as Brikama and Jamburr Lower Basic.
MeriekeIjsendoom, chairperson Foundation Buganala, said her Foundation is facilitating schools with good buildings, toilets and all kinds of materials.
Also speaking to reporters, BakaryBadjie, the new head teacher of Brikama Lower Basic School, said the pupils, staff, parents and the community of Brikama are very grateful to both Foundation Buganala and The Sport City-The Netherlands for the humanitarian assistance they are rendering to them. He recalled that last year they built some toilets facilities for the school.
It would be recalled that the initiative of the sport instructors is the result of the donation of the yearly Christmas bonus of the employees of Sport city- The Netherlands. Sport City is a Dutch organisation with 20 fitness century and 500 employees.
