A modern cricket playing ground will be put up in Kisumu, according to Nyanza Cricket Association chairman Gerald Omollo.
He said the artificial synthetic turf will be laid at Kisumu Day secondary school. He said Cricket Kenya administrative manager David Odhiambo has assessed the ground in readiness for the project.
Speaking during an open tournament, Omollo said once the astro turf is laid, more cricket tournaments will be held in the area.
"A professional turf will be laid to make batting and bowling easier. Cricket Kenya have already endorsed the project," he added. The chairman said t Kisumu has 15 trained cricket coaches and umpires.
He asked schools to embrace the game. Derrick Inyanje one of the coaches at Kisumu Academy said there is potential of growing the game in the region. "We have talent especially in the slums that could be nurtured and exposed," he added.
