Angola: Minister Launches First Stone for Kuquema Prison Construction

Kuito — The minister of the Interior, Ângelo Veigas Tavares, last Friday launched the foundation stone for the construction of the Kuquema prison, located 20 kilometres to the south of Kuito City, in Bié Province, which has the capacity to receive 1.500 inmates.

On the occasion, the supervisor of the works, Fernando Cristiano, informed that the infrastructure will include two sports courts, a refectory, leisure area, a medical centre and a school, besides other facilities.

The national director for Prison Services, Domingos Ferreira Andrade, stressed that the programme to build the mentioned undertaking is part of the measures aimed at improving conditions in prisons.

He commended the government's commitment to the construction of infrastructures for his sector, which helps to alleviate the pressure on other prisons of this region.
