Sierra Leone: Lack of Security Worries Regent CHO

The Community Health Officer (CHO) at Regent village in the Mountain Rural District has said that security is one of the key challenges facing the Regent hospital.

Jeneba M. Sesay told Concord Times in an exclusive interview that the present security guard deployed at the centre is an aged man who could no longer perform the task effectively. She pleaded with the government to provide them with an energetic guard to man the centre. Even though a police post is just opposite the centre, Madam Sesay expressed fear for her life and the safety of the hospital drugs, citing frequent cases of armed robberies in the community.

"Thieves have in the recent past invaded some hospitals in the Mountain Rural District," lamented Madam Sesay. "As a woman, I am afraid for my life and the safety of my children. The police post you see there is just a structure, no sooner it gets to 5:00pm the post will be completely deserted by the officers."

The Community Health Officer also urged the authorities to provide the centre with an emergency ambulance as the only one available at Dwarzark could not be immediately accessed during emergencies.
