Angola: Scholarship Holders in Table Tennis Team for African Cup

Luanda — Seven Angolan scholarship holders in China will represent the country in the African Table Tennis Championship, in both sexes, scheduled to happen on 1-17 April in Tunis, Tunisia, ANGOP has learnt.

The seven players are Ruth Tavares, Isabel Albino, Aléssio Piter, Paixão dos Santos, Maria Samalinha, Elisandro André e Edvânio Neto, who make up the cadet and junior teams.

The mentioned players have been on academic and sports training in the Chinese tennis academy, a country that is the world's greatest power in this sport, and are being coached by Manuel Pimenta, who also resides in the mentioned Asian country.

The players are expected in Luanda this month for a period of training and on 13-27 March they are to fulfil a training programme in Portugal.

In the 2012 edition of the African table tennis championship, held in Algeria, the Angolan team conquered the bronze medal in female cadets.
