Libya: Nation Smashes Drug Smuggling Ring

The Libyan Coast Guard seized more than 30,500 kilos of drugs from a boat near Tripoli, navy spokesman Colonel Ayoub Gacem said on Saturday (February 23rd).

Officers arrested two Moroccans, a Libyan, an Egyptian and a Tunisian on Friday after uncovering the drug haul aboard Libya-flagged vessel "Bab al-Bahr".

The boat was stopped in Libyan territorial waters, some 40 kilometres northeast of the al-Bouri oilfield. It was later moved to the Tripoli naval base.

"The anti-narcotics department recorded the shipment, its contents and weight," Colonel Gacem said. He did not specify the type of drugs seized from the boat.
