Eleven rural communities in the Asante Akyem South District of the Ashanti Region which did not have access to electricity power over the past years, have now been connected to the national grid.
The communities are Bankame, Mamponteng, Dansabonsu, Ankaase, Yaw Safo, Tonkwai Kumeaboi, Subinsu, Teshie Praso, Tekyekrom and Sabo. They have all been provided with electricity meters.
Mr. De-graft Forkuo, District Chief Executive, at the commissioning, stated that the project was part of the rural electrification programme of the government.
According to him, the government would continue to address the basic needs of the citizenry, irrespective of one's political affiliations, especially the less privileged in the rural areas who lack access to potable water, good roads, and classrooms to make teaching and learning attractive.
The residents of the beneficiary communities expressed their appreciation to the government and the DCE for his efforts at ensuring that they were hooked to the national grid, as their share of the national cake.
