Kenya: KIE to Manage ICDC Assets

The government will transfer all Industrial Constituency Development Centers land to Kenya Industrial Estates for smooth running.

KIE Managing Director Julius Mokogi said services that were previously offered by the institution have been divided into four pillars of value addition.

He said a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Industrialisation and KIE has been launched so as to place them under the parastatal management.

"We have signed the MoU and this will solve the problem of unemployment because we shall have control of ICDCs at local level. So far, we have received support from political class and we shall take over running of all constituencies soon," said Mokogi.

He said they had carried out a pilot exercise on industrial sheds rehabilitation at Kiambaa in Kiambu County and Kitui County. "The two counties have been a good example of Juakali boosts through ICDC where we lend them equipment which they use and return at a fee. Their prices are subsidized and the loans with low interest," said Mokogi.
