The Inkatha Freedom Party in KwaZulu Natal condemns violence that has evoked in KwaMashu hostel, particularly in Ward 39.

“We are appalled by the recent shootings that have occurred. On Saturday our newly elected Ward 39 Councillor was attacked by unknown men while he was engaging with some of his community members. In this incident one person was injured while others managed to escape. Today we have received a report that a person was shot and killed and one was left injured while they were at the Councillor’s office. This is totally unacceptable and we are against any type of violence,” said Hon. Blessed Gwala, Leader of the Official Opposition and National Chairperson of the IFP.

The IFP is calling upon all Leaders to unite in fighting against violence in KwaMashu. The IFP is also appalled by eThekwini Municipality’s response when its Councillor applied for Protection.

“It is disturbing that while Cllr Zungu of Ward 72 who happens to be an ANC Councillor was given bodyguards when he commenced his duties as a Cllr but Cllr Ngcamu of Ward 39 who is our Councillor has not received any form of protection from the Municipality although there is evidence that his life is in danger. The delay in providing him the necessary security is unacceptable,” said Hon. Gwala.

Councillor Sakhi Ngcamu has replaced the late Cllr Themba Xulu who was abducted and killed in November 2012.
