South Africa: Inkatha Freedom Party Welcomes the King's Speech

press release

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in KwaZulu Natal has welcomed His Majesty, King Goodwill Zwelithini’s address at the opening of the Provincial Legislature at the Pietermaritzburg Royal Showgrounds today.

“We welcome His Majesty’s speech; he has highlighted some vital issues that need a close scope when being tackled. We applaud the King for his call for a Mining Dialogue, it is vital that we have such an engagement since Mining plays such an important role not only in our economy but in the society as a whole,” said Honourable Blessed Gwala, Leader of the Official Opposition and IFP National Chairperson.

The IFP also support His Majesty’s approach to rural development. It is the IFP’s belief that Traditional Leaders should be at the centre of any development in their areas.

“We welcome the report back by the King on the issue of Ingonyama Rural Development Forum, once again the monarchy demonstrated the importance of accountability,” said Honourable Gwala.

The IFP looks forward to working with the King’s Forum in ensuring integrated rural development.
