Angola: Literacy Programme to Cover Over 20,000 Adults in 2013

Ondjiva — At least twenty-four thousand adults will benefit from literacy training in Modules I, II and III in the current school year, under the acceleration programme of the Provincial Education Department in southern Cunene province, against 14.726 in 2012, said Tuesday the local coordinator, Susana Daniel.

Speaking to Angop, the official said that the estimated increase is due to the flow of new teachers and increase of classrooms, to match the literacy system every four months, unlike the previous three months.

"We want to produce more in terms of quantity and quality in order to make the learning system effective, as well as redouble efforts to reach all communes and better expand our action in all localities" he stated.

Currently the acceleration school programme in districts of Kwanhama, Cuvelai, Cahama, Coroca, Ombadja and Namacunde controls 400 literacy teachers, including 100 who have attended upgrading training.
